[That, he doesn't know if he can deal with right now. He's seen enough of Angelus to last him another century.
He goes quiet when she asks about Connor, a frown pulling at his lips as he looks back to his son.]
Every day. [And in some respects, he feels like it might be better, like this could be a real second chance for them-- but Connor had a better life now than any Angel had ever been able to offer him on his own.] It's selfish, but I wish he would.

[ Selfishness is inherent in everyone, and this kind of selfish want just seems incredibly human to her. Who doesn't want their family with them, especially family someone has such a complicated history with? ]
Not that there's some secret summoning ritual to bring people here, I'm sure we would have heard of that by now.

[Angel had told him to leave town, to take his new parents and run as far as he possibly could in order to keep them safe, but Connor had already defied him once in that respect. He knows his son, despite spending so much of Connor's life apart from him. Listening was not his strong point, just as it wasn't always Angel's.]
When I go back, there's no telling what will be left. Maybe not even enough of a world to have a life in.

Still, she can't say that LA would be super great once he is back. ]
Maybe... [ She trails off a little, falling silent as she watches the scene in front of them start over. ] But it probably won't stay like that forever. Nothing ever really does, right?
[ Gettin' all existential up in here. ]

[It's their calling as Champions, what the Powers have chosen them to do. He doesn't believe in letting anyone else pull his strings, no matter what side of the struggle they're on-- but he does believe in doing good.]
I brought those demons to Los Angeles. If I go back-- when I go back, I'll do whatever it takes to clean up the mess.

[ Rome wasn't built in a day and so on. It takes time to fight back, regardless of what someone is fighting against. ]
Kinda ironic, LA getting a Hell full of demons. City of Angels it ain't, am I right?
no subject
[Even considering the irony of him naming himself the city's protector, in a manner of speaking. LA might not have a hellmouth beneath it, but there's still evil at the heart of it. Wolfram & Hart's roots run deep, and while LA is only one of their power centers, they still control a hell of a lot.]
You know, most people wouldn't agree with me. They'd say that fighting without any kind of end or reward in sight isn't worth the effort.
[He looks to her, his face carefully neutral as he takes a moment to study hers.]
You're different.
no subject
If everyone took that attitude, then we wouldn't have had any progress at all. It's always an uphill battle, it just comes with the territory. [ Fighting any good fight seems that way. At his statement, she glances over at him, just a little puzzled. ] What kind of different?
no subject
You see the bigger picture.
[That's a rare thing, in his experience.]
Most people don't. They think if you're not being rewarded-- that something's not worth doing. But not you.
