+ FOURTH WALL EVENT: GENERAL NON-PARTY MINGLE POST +

Who: E V E R Y O N E
Where: Everywhere that isn't one of the parties! Both Sides!
When: Sept 1st to Sept 10th
Rating: G to PG-13 (please label higher ratings, thank you!)
Summary: Wonderful parties are springing up all across Wonderland, but there are still plenty of other places to explore. This is a log for any new arrivals who want to experience different parts of Wonderland life, and any current guests not in the mood for a log or transmission of their own.

Please also see THE FOURTH WALL MASTER POST for rules, information, and all the fun parties you can visit!
The Story:

On the morning of September 1st, everyone in Wonderland, on both Real and Mirror Side, will awake to find one of four possible invitations has been shoved under their doors. The glass has been carefully removed from all mirrors, and everyone will be able to cross to and from Mirror Side with ease, without forcing any sort of swap. The Queen of Hearts' chambers, discovered in the previous event, will be mysteriously inaccessible, leading only to a tearoom.

Additionally, there will be many more Wonderland guests than usual, each of them with their own random invitation and network device (wired to make replies only). As the week goes on, as per the invitations, more and more parties will appear (and everyone is invited to all of them, whether they received an invitation or not). But who brought them here? Why are there so many parties? Who is responsible for all of this exactly?

It's anyone's guess, though if parties or riddles are not your style, then there is always plenty more to see...

[ jane's secondary lab away from lab is not as dark as it once was but by the looks of things it might always just be an organized mess. (maybe there are fewer differences between jane's stoner mirror and this jane than first glance would reveal...)

it's probably rather easy for this not-quite-bruce to get a closer look at the various stages of research and stalled theories jane's circle of scientists and interns has done on the aether. ...does that one report really say that darcy and jane made progress via glitter? oh dear.
]

Seriously? I had everything over here organized already...

[ goggles cocked atop her head, jane is facing away from the door and lamenting what looks to be a nicely-cleaned up workstation as if somehow the tidiness is an affront to science and humankind. in irritation, she lobs an empty bottle of what had once been some solution over her shoulder, and doesn't notice as it sails toward her newest labmate. ]

your wish is my command

[ His first visit to the lab hadn't proven very fruitful. with Fitz playing hero and nearly getting himself and his sweetheart killed over it, Bruce hadn't managed to get his hands on anything really interesting. There are plenty of people working at the labs, though, and not everyone's as paranoid as Fitz is.

Besides, this time Bruce is approaching the matter in a different way. He really loathes his real version, but maybe it's time he tries a little acting to see if that gets him anything good.

It starts off well, at least. There's definitely a bit of surprise when she throws that bottle over her shoulder, and he startles slightly, lifting his hands to catch it. ]

Jesus—!

[ He pulls a smile, ducking his head a little. ]

Little more warning next time would be nice.

Oh my god!

[ her exclamation comes on the heels of bruce's, and jane winces at his comment before whirling to greet him. ]

I'm so sorry-- [ she can't help but chuckle, and claps her hand over her mouth. ] You OK? Darcy says I should've been a pitcher...

[personal profile] dystonia 2016-09-07 12:16 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Bruce pulls a smile— strained, tense, like the other version of him would, his gaze falling to the floor. He feels so uncomfortable, like he's just had to force himself into a skin that's not his own, but then again that kind of helps with the pretense. He's watched the Real side for long enough to know that the other one often feels like this. Like he's not comfortable in his own skin. ]

I think Darcy might be right. [ An air of amusement to his tone, he sets the bottle down on a clean counter nearby. ] So, uh... what were you so upset about?

Oh, I just-- like my things in a particular order. Especially because some of the theories on the aether don't work out of context.

[ a corner of jane's mouth lifts in a vaguely apologetic gesture, as if she's anticipating whatever degree of mockery her work habits might produce. then she gestures to the pile of messy papers beside the laptop. ]

At least it's all here, still. Have you made any more progress on removal options?

[personal profile] dystonia 2016-09-09 02:57 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Aether... right, he's sure he's heard the word before, during one of his eavesdropping sessions. Sadly he hadn't heard enough to know what they were talking about, but the way she says it makes it plenty clear that it's important.

He doesn't mock her, like the other Bruce wouldn't, and just offers a small shrug. Hardly the time to make fun of her when he's trying his hardest to get his hands on as much information as possible, after all. ]

You can always rearrange your things back into their particular... order. [ Said like a joke, of course, he makes his way to the pile of papers all too casually. Wouldn't want to be overly eager and make her suspicious. ]

Not yet. Things got... busy, you could say. With the event. [ There. Good enough of an excuse, right? He just hopes she won't ask him too many technical questions, just like he hopes she's more inclined to answering questions rather than asking them right now. ] What about you? Any progress?

[personal profile] interspatial 2016-09-10 10:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, yes and no. I'm working with another physicist who's taking a look over our research so far right now. He's familiar with dark matter, so I'm hoping he spots something we've missed so far.

[ bruce will find her more than happy to share details. he'd proven skeptical and methodical in a way she'd never valued as much as she probably should've. add to that her memories of him helping her in a fake world of mutant versus humans, and the way he's kind to her now and spilling the beans is a full go.

so even though her hard copies are a mess, she's willing to practically reassemble them right there in front of him.
]

But you know how it is; the process of proving theories little by little. How I'm still alive, how the dimension keeps it in check, and whatever it reacted to when the accident happened upstairs... it's gonna take time, so I'll just make sure I'm down here for the bulk of my research. Hopefully we're right about the trigger and avoiding it will help.

[personal profile] dystonia 2016-09-12 06:19 pm (UTC)(link)
[ He really was very foolish, he sees now. Approaching people directly and violently, threatening to hurt or actually hurting them, had yielded very few results. Granted, he had a lot of fun, but he came out of it more or less empty-handed.

But now? By simply taking on a role and acting it out, something he's much better at than his Real counterpart, Bruce is getting a lot more information on his hands. not just that, but information that's given all too willingly. Bruce couldn't have planned it any better, really, and as soon as she starts organizing her files for him (how kind of her, really), he's prompt in putting his speed-reading skills to use and skimming the pages so he gets a first general idea of what they're talking about here.

And oh, it's good. It's even better than he could've hoped for. No wonder that idiot Fitz was willing to get himself killed to protect it. Too bad it changed literally nothing in the end. ]

Right. Until we can figure out how to remove and contain it... the trigger is what we should be focusing on. [ She's thinking of avoiding it, he's far too fascinated about seeing what can happen if she can't. But that's a project for another day. ] I think I need to look over that incident again, actually. Really look into the data we gathered from there.

[personal profile] interspatial 2016-09-13 01:40 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah. Yeah, of course. Here--

[ jane reaches forward to tilt the monitor on the wall toward them, and her fingers clack away to bring up the composite video of the 4th floor lab, split in four different views. ]

Unless you want to revisit Fitz's readings?

[personal profile] dystonia 2016-09-13 10:48 pm (UTC)(link)
[ He is absolutely loving this. Jane's just giving him everything on a silver platter, and she has absolutely no idea, no concept of danger or self-preservation whatsoever. Not that it surprises him, honestly. He's watched her for long enough to know that much about her.

He's just glad he's in such perfect control of his emotions, or he could've given away the glee he feels when she mentions Fitz's work. He likely wouldn't need them at this point, but knowing that pathetic excuse of a person died trying to protect his work kind of lends a special flavor to all this. ]

Yes, actually. if you don't think he'd mind? [ lol ] I've been trying to find him but I haven't had much luck today.
interspatial: (batch01_050)

[personal profile] interspatial 2016-09-16 05:05 am (UTC)(link)
No-- he wouldn't mind at all! He looks up to you, you know.

[ :\

jane smiles and calls up the disk that fitz keeps his data on, before plugging in a thumb drive. it'll take awhile to copy, but jane moves aside to let bruce peruse it for now.
]

If anything, we'd all look forward to your input. With my expertise on wormholes, Dr. Wells' knowledge of dark matter and your experiences with uncontrollable forces, maybe we actually have a shot at getting the aether under control.

[personal profile] dystonia 2016-09-20 11:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Right, he... I know.

[ Time to twist his face into that expression of sadness and self-pity his Real counterpart does sometimes when he thinks no one's looking. It stays on for just long enough in case Jane looks at him —got to look and act the part, after all— then he drops it as he turns his attention to the data. ]

This is all very useful. [ He looks over at her, smiling weakly. ] Thanks, Jane. I really needed to get all this together.
interspatial: (batch01_012)

[personal profile] interspatial 2016-09-21 01:57 am (UTC)(link)
Of course.

[ the look is enough to get jane to extend a hand out toward bruce's bicep in a quiet request for him to keep from bolting. ]

Is everything OK? I know it's been a difficult transition, and my introduction definitely didn't help...

[personal profile] dystonia 2016-09-25 08:02 pm (UTC)(link)
What? Oh. No, I'm alright. Really. I like this... all this research. It'll help keep me busy and distracted.

[ Which isn't a lie, actually. It's fun to watch the Real side but it gets boring eventually, and with this, who knows? Bruce might just be able to plan something a little more special for his next visit. ]

[personal profile] interspatial 2016-09-26 11:29 pm (UTC)(link)

jane exhales, nodding in agreement.

I've always liked research for the sake of research but in Wonderland, distraction is nice sometimes. I guess I'd just rather work the problem than give in to feeling too comfortable, you know?

[personal profile] dystonia 2016-09-28 01:08 pm (UTC)(link)
It's never a good thing to get too comfortable, no.

[ But God, he has to love the irony. Talking about not getting too comfortable right after she's basically provided all the information she has to a Mirror. And not just any Mirror, but quite possibly one of the most dangerous and unstable ones.

His demeanor shifts just so. Maybe not enough to give him away, but enough for her to notice the change. There's no point in acting anymore, he's got what he wants. ]

Thank you, Jane. You really have... proven yourself much more useful than the others.
interspatial: (033)

[personal profile] interspatial 2016-09-28 05:23 pm (UTC)(link)
[ she's been so happy to have bruce as a sounding board that the comment doesn't strike too hard at first. jane even laughs softly before realizing she's not sure what he means. ]

Wait-- what? Others?

[personal profile] dystonia 2016-09-28 10:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes. You people around this side.

[ That ought to make things clear enough— but before Jane tries to either run away or play the hero and get the files back from him, he looks around the desk for any heavy object. The lamp's not ideal, but... it should be heavy enough. It'll have to do. ]

Oh, and when you see Leo again— do tell him I said hi, will you?

[ And without further ado, he lifts up the lamp hard enough that the plug's yanked away from the wall, then he swings it at her head, aiming for a hard, swift blow. Not to kill her, mind. Just enough to knock her out.

She did help him a lot, after all. Call it repaying the favor. ]

[ this side. electricity rushes along jane's nerves and it still doesn't travel fast enough to make a difference. she doesn't have time to regret or wonder about fitz. all she can do is hope that maybe the aether will do something.

it doesn't seem to care, though. jane exhales a grunt at the blow, and then the world goes dark.
]

[personal profile] dystonia 2016-09-29 12:55 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Honestly, Bruce hadn't even thought of the aether, which might be because he just doesn't know enough about it. Then again, unleashing something like that in Wonderland might've made things more interesting.

Leaving her body sprawled in the middle of the floor, he goes about gathering all the files she provided, then waits until he has all the necessary copies of their digital files. He considers destroying the originals, but... no, this makes it more fun. Give them a chance to try and stop him.

He steps right over her as he leaves, files tucked underneath his arm, digital copies kept in his pocket. He doesn't expect anyone stopping him, but at this point? He'd do anything to not let them take these files back from him. ]
