+ Why, you're only a sort of thing in its dream! | MINGLE LOG +

Who: EVERYONE (Reals AND Mirrors!)
Where: D R E A M S I D E
When: June 6th - June 12th
Rating: PG-13, warn if going higher!
Summary: Mingle log for the Dream Side event! After the girls’ seance, every single person in Wonderland, no matter what they were doing at the time, will black out. When they awake, they will find themselves in a strange and twisted world outside of time - a different one than usual.
The Story:

After the girls’ seance, every single person in Wonderland, no matter what they were doing at the time, will black out. When they awake, they will find themselves in a strange and twisted world outside of time - a different one than usual. Elements may seem familiar, but it's clearly a different place.

Welcome, Mirrors and Reals, to DREAM SIDE. The sky above is dark and speckled with far-off stars but the world below is unnaturally lit and bright. There is a mansion at its center, but it is warped and unusual, as though someone stretched it like taffy, but if you try to enter it, you'll find that the door is not just locked - it appears to be painted on, as though it is just static scenery. It isn't a mansion that can be entered, just a cartoon-ish mansion cobbled together from dozens of memories.

Dream Side, as you might have guessed from the name, is not a static place. It is built from the scraps of dreams of those who cross into that side of Wonderland. Characters on this side of Wonderland are not asleep, but the world they are in is shaped by the contents of their dreams. Unlike the glass between Real Side and Mirror Side, there does not seem to be an obvious thing connecting this Side of Wonderland to the other two - at least, not something visible.

They are not alone in this world either - because the girls were conducting a seance, they have inadvertently called upon the dead. For each time your character has died a mansion death, there will be a ghostly copy of them wandering Dream Side. They will look as standard ghosts do - pale and translucent, looking as they did the moment they died. They will have a tendency to haunt their current living version (and those who care about them), but they will not be able to speak directly with them. For Mirrors, these ghosts can be Unmade versions of themselves, if they were ever Unmade. Some ghosts might be hostile and some might just gently haunt from a distance - it will depend on the character and what they would do if they were a ghost how they behave.

Behold, the world your dreams have built!

The Casino (June 6th)

Oi! Knock it off, that's not how seances work!

[Yet no matter how hard he yells at his phone, the girls on the other side can't hear him... And he, too, gets knocked out. The first thing he sees when he comes to is familiar slot machine, heavily themed after a bear he never wanted to see again for the rest of his life.]

H-Huh? [He sits up, looking around at the other games. There's the fishing game, the driving game, the game where you match blocks to dig up fossils... There's no mistaking it, it's the Casino from that horrible academy he was trapped in. But he glances down at himself and sees that he's still wearing the clothes he usually wears in Wonderland...] What the...?

[He's not in the mood to start playing right now. After all, coming back to the Academy alive and well is the last thing he expected. After pressing his hand against one of the machines to make sure he isn't a ghost, he gets up and wanders upstairs. Sure enough, there was the prize counter, right next to the... Wait, what's the MonoMono Machine doing here? Shouldn't it be in the School Store?

He's very, very confused when he wanders around some more and stumbles upon someone who is definitely from Wonderland and not one of his so-called classmates.]

Hey! You have any idea what's going on?!

Dead End Flats (June 6th-June 9th) (CW: Clowns)

[Great. Just great. We're all trapped in Dreamland or something.

Kokichi does not want to spend any more time in the section of his "home" if he can help it. Instead, he heads South a bit and comes across a run down motel in the middle of nowhere. Ergh.

It's better than nothing, and there's a certain Lost Boys Apocalypse aesthetic that calls to him. He goes in, not even bothering with the check in since he's pretty sure there's nobody working there, and claims the first room with a functional closet.

You'll definitely know which one he's staying in, considering he attempted to spray paint a clown face onto the door. Came out creepier than he wanted, but lots of people are scared of clowns. Extra security feature. He decides to redecorate the inside a bit as well- Replacing the blinds with better ones, extra pillows and a monochrome quilt, taking down the broken painting and hanging up a large whiteboard... It still looks like a run down motel room, but at least it sort of feels like a place some scrappy teenager would want to sleep in.

... Except he finds he doesn't ever feel the need to sleep. Even when he wants to. He comes back to this home base and lays on the bed, but all he really does is lay there and stare at the ceiling. Sometimes the cracks on the broken fan move. This really is a dream, isn't it?]

Dead End. (June 10th-12th) (CW: Implied violence)

[Except the dream seems to feel more like a nightmare the longer he's stuck in this realm. He's thinking of the weird void from Christmas... Sure, he could avoid the black void well enough... Was this it? That black void?

The sound of gunshots make him jump. Bang. Bang. Just outside his room. He gulps, creeping up to peek through the blinds. There's not a soul outside, but he can still hear the sounds. Bang. Smack. Hurk. CRUNCH.]

Urgh... [He takes a step back.] Perfect. Just the thing I needed. How can this get any worse...?

[It's kind of hard not to think about the possibilities when the noise is so loud and the Motel looks more abandoned than usual...]

WILDCARD

[Kokichi will be exploring the rest of the Dream Side when he's not holed up in the Motel of Doom. Feel free to ping me at [plurk.com profile] Nyanka if you want to plot something.]

𝐚. 𝐚 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝 𝐨𝐟 𝐩𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐢𝐦𝐚𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧

What the hey-hey?? [Mabel rubs her eyes as the strange dreamland stretches before her. A moment ago, she'd been biting her nails, watching Alice and the girls conducting their seance, and now... This.]

Oh, Alice... What did you do? [At least the White Jabberwocky didn't eat her, but this is not good. Feeling a little like she's stepped into a much different Wonderland, she brushes herself off, gathers her resolve, and sets off in a direction.

She's got a family to find and a mystery to solve.]

𝐛. 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐮𝐧𝐤𝐧𝐨𝐰𝐧

[Mabel's memories of The Unknown aren't good, so when she wanders into it almost by accident, all of her instincts say to turn around and go elsewhere. She's been here twice now- in an event and during Wirt's dream, and if she can walk out, she will.]

Nope! [She says, pointedly, directing her words to the trees themselves, and spins on her heels to leave and take another path.

... And comes face to face with a spectral version of herself- even pale and see-through there's a strange, sickly blue tinge to her lips and her eyes are heavily drawn with exhaustion. Mabel only knows to place this ghost because she's seen that look on Dipper when he didn't come back from one of his deaths after she did.]
Uh.... Hi, Mabel? Heh. [She tries to awkwardly side-step the ghost.] I'm just gonna leave now. You can have this place alllll to yourself.

[The ghost stays focused on her, following her like a shadow even as she tries to briskly walk away. She picks up speed and then promptly slams into someone else, causing her to fall backwards onto the ground.] Ow.

𝐜. 𝐟𝐥𝐨𝐨𝐝𝐞𝐝 𝐜𝐢𝐭𝐲

[It's times like this Mabel is glad she carries her mermaid bracelet with her at all times. This seems like a good use of her time and it'll be good stress relief, because this? This is not the least bit fun, but being a mermaid sure is. Sure people can walk and breathe and move around just fine in the flooded city, but if you can do it better, then why not?

So there's a MerMabel just swimming circles around people who pass by and enjoying herself. No big deal. Just a brief escape from reality.]

𝐝. 𝐦𝐚𝐛𝐞𝐥 𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐜𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐥𝐞

[Like the Unknown, Mabel Land carries no good connotations and this is her dream, so she's even less attached to it, but this... event? This crazy chaos? Whatever it is has been a lot for her, and the walls are nice and soft and good to lean against. And towards the end of the week, she keeps coming back to it.

It's actually kinda nice, really. Maybe she had it wrong all this time. Maybe she should stay here. Eventually, she wanders up to the mayor's office and flops into the swivel chair and just spins in it. Yeah. Maybe she ought to just stay here forever.]

𝐞. 𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐝

[All of these prompts can occur at any point in the week! Time is nebulous! Also Mabel will be wandering through every place eventually so feel free to choose your own adventure.]

𝐚. 𝐟𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞𝐭𝐨𝐰𝐧

[In the Trip Trap, Rocket is in his element. The rest of the stuff in this area? It's a bad neighborhood to be sure, and he's into that, but it's all closed and eerily empty. It's not like the bar is any better in that department, but it feels nicer.

Also it seems to have booze which Rocket is behind the bar gathering for both drinking purposes and arson uses. The closets haven't been kind to him and he doesn't carry a lot of his best stuff on him all the time. He's got his guns and some smaller explosives, but a Molotov or two won't hurt.]

𝐛. 𝐬𝐮𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐦𝐞 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞

[For good reason, Rocket has never wanted to go to Hala- it's just not a good place for anyone with a chip on their shoulder and a lot of flaws that the Kree aren't fond of, but the shuttle draws him, and he goes.

He's not alone- more than one person wants to sate their curiosity, and he's noticed a few with their faces pressed to the window.]
Don't get excited. Sure, it's glitzy, but the Kree ain't famous for bein' nice and reasonable individuals.

[The Supreme Intelligence for him takes the form of Yondu Udonta, and part of him will keep coming back just to talk to him, because it feels like him and that's sort of a big enough deal that he can't resist it. This would be fine, except for the part where if you catch him towards the end of the event, "Yondu" is bearing down on him. Ya think you're ever gonna have a place out there, rat? You're an object. Might as well be a useful one."]

𝐜. 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐨

[Rocket finds the crashed M-ship and his little heart nearly stops. It's been years since he's seen the Milano- the Benatar might be similar if only bigger, but the Milano was his first home. And here it is, gutted and broken like it was when they crashed on Berhart.

He runs to it, tearing his way up the hatch and into the main hull. God, it even smells the way it did before, as if it only just crashed- ozone and spilled fluids from where the engine room got smashed up. He traces his way through the whole thing until he finds the tape deck, but it's mysteriously empty, and somehow that's enough to leave him thumping his head against it.]

You know better. You can't go home again.

𝐝. 𝐦𝐚𝐢𝐧 𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐭

[Rocket has let everyone know that he absolutely hated the Storybrooke event more than he hated any other event before and since. So accidentally stepping into Main Street has a visceral effect on him. He quickly has to check over his own body to make sure he's not human and when he confirms he's still himself, he bares his teeth in a growl.]

Oh screw you, Wonderland. Shit.

𝐞. 𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐝

[Rocket can also be found at The Casino, Avengers Tower, and Dead End Flats at various parts of the event!

[Well... This is unsettling. Even more so knowing that Peridot has been split up from pretty much everyone she knows- Lapis, mostly. Steven is just gone. But that's fine. She's just going to cross this stupid bridge.

WHAT WAS THAT SOUND???

She jerks her head in a direction, panicking at the wheezing sound and a twig snapping. She waits, frozen, but nothing happens. She resumes walking, but then the singing starts and THAT'S IT.]

SHOW YOURSELF. I have an earth vehicle and I'm not afraid to use it.

[Hold please while she tries to lift that fucking truck with her metal powers. This can in no way go wrong.]

𝐛. 𝐑𝐎𝐊𝐊𝐄𝐍𝐉𝐈𝐌𝐀

[Peridot is soaked from the rain outside and the mansion is a nice reprieve from that... For about five minutes. And then the dread sets in, different from the normal dread she's been feeling this whole event. But that's fine. She'll deal with it.

She can be found tearing her way around the place and arming herself with things from the closet- mostly metal junk- and occasionally stopping to glower at the portrait, demanding of it:]
What're you looking at?

[All work and no play makes Peridot a dull gem, I guess.]

𝐜. 𝐬𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐥 𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐲

[Peridot is sitting next to a set of lockers with a pile of stuffed animals, bento boxes, homemade chocolates, and other assorted Japanese gifts with a look of deep, deep irritation. She seems to be staring at something- specifically that fucking visual menu that won't let her do anything unless she presses something.]

Who am I supposed to even give these to????

𝐜. 𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐝

[Peridot can be found just about anywhere throughout the event, but she'll probably spend the worst of it holed up in The Prime Kindergarten.]

[Sparkly horse library]

[The library is instantly recognisable for Sunburst- when he finds himself here, he wonders briefly if he was sent home- but no, he remembers Wonderland and the library is rather devoid of other ponies. So this is more Wonderland madness, then. He wanders the shelves, enjoying the familiarity, picking up a few books and flicking through them half-heartedly. For what he's learned of the Jabberwock already, he knows there's a chance it has something to do with this- the fact this has happened without any warning from the residents- aside from Alice doing something that looked very much like an attempt to contact the dead- suggests this is something more than a normal event. If you happen to be around while he's heading out, he offers a smile. ]

Uh. Feel free to look around the books, hopefully, it's safe. Though have you seen anything of the Jabberwock? I have a feeling it has something to do with this. Everything seems too closely linked for it not to be.

[Craigh Na Dun]

[Sunburst has heard plenty about the standing stones Claire stepped through and travelled through time with. Of course, he doesn't know they're exactly these standing stones, but standing stones are always pretty damn magical where he comes from, so it seems a good place to spend time.

He can be found circling the stones, occasionally hovering a notepad and quill beside him scribbling notes. Sometimes, his horn lights up with his usual yellow magic, which he sends off into the circle, watching it dissipate away.
]

Fascinating.

[Trost]

[Sunburst finds the walled city and a horrible feeling of dread sinks in his stomach. It could be somebody's dream, just a pile of nothing that was conjured by someone's subconscious. But he also knows it probably isn't that and someone he knows comes from such a city. He wanders around, worried, ears slicked back. Ohhhh this is probably bad. He feels the need to check, just in case Jean is here somewhere.

He's absolutely not a fan of the pure titans when they show up- they're exactly as awful as Jean described them and he isn't prepared to get into any combat situations. No sir. He can be found galloping through the chaos, trying to get the hell out of there. Help a pony out?
]

[Spooky murder bridge]

[Louis fucking hates this bridge. He nearly died on it, back home. The memory is still fairly fresh in his mind, how everything went to fucking shit on this bridge, and the fallout it caused. The familiar walker-sound makes him tense- he doesn't have a weapon here- he picks up a rock and it'll have to be enough. The walkers don't come, but his ghost sure does. It follows him with a low groan, staying a few paces behind at all times. Louis hates it- he was only just putting himself back together again after dying at all, and now this is happening. He'd been freaked out at first, trying to run from it at every turn. Eventually, he realised it couldn't hurt him and it was just going to follow him like a creepy nightmare. He tries to keep moving, to keep ahead of it, eventually turning his head to cast a glare at it.]

Fuck off. I don't want any.

[He gets to the bridge and Minnie's singing starts up. He throws his hands in the air, because yeah sure, why the fuck not.]

Are you serious right now, Wonderland? Can you maybe just not for, like, one week? Just one?

[The Casino]

[Louis has never been to a casino in his life. He's been to some very high-class arcades- but never a casino. His father never gambled with the family fortune, he didn't want to risk it. Louis always wondered if it was his father's complete inability to have fun that also played a part in it. He wanders around, staring at all the lights and noise that would be like ringing the dinner bell back home. The world sure ain't what it used to be. He glances behind him, his creeepy-fucking ghost still following a few yards behind.]

No, seriously, fuck off. Nobody wants you.

[Which, if anyone else was aiming that at themselves would probably feel weird, but with Louis level of self-loathing makes it feel like a regular Tuesday. Unfortunately, as he's berating his dead self, everything starts to go awful. He stares at the creepy videos, then turns to the prize stand and...oh. There are a lot of dead pictures there, most of them from home, some from Wonderland. Louis stares at them for a moment, before turning on his heel, heading for the exit. ]

Nope! No. Absolutely not. This is my level of done-ness. This right here. Nope.

[Wildcard]

[Honestly, if your character has CR with him, he'll be looking for them. Throw whatever you like here, Louis will go to every single place if it means finding his loved ones. He'll for sure check out The Unknown, The Avengers Tower, The Prime Kindergarten and the Amagi Inn]

the amagi inn

Julia doesn't consider herself easily spooked and--for the moment, anyway--she isn't. Considering what everyone woke up to, she counts herself lucky that the first place she stumbles upon is a comfortable looking inn, although she is still hesitant as she walks through, casting an upward, questioning glance at the seals overhead.

But, she needs a closet. To be more specific, she needs a notepad and a working camera. There's no guarantee she'll be able to keep whatever she has, and she knows that, but not at least making the attempt goes against her own intrepid persona. So she starts by opening every door she can, loudly and obnoxiously, hoping to come across one that will summon what she's looking for.

prime kindergarten

Obviously, she follows the sounds. Julia isn't sure what she's looking for, if anything, but the skittering noises from inside bait her easily into the creepy holes in the giant crayon. She looks around for a while, more and more confused, before she finally finds the hole in the ground.

And it's that. A hole in the ground. That she's going to go into. Because this is Julia.

"Christ. I hate that I'm like this," she mutters, pressing her lips together as she stares down at it.

wybs 89.3 fm

And this place she knows. Julia knew it was there for a while, but she's avoided it because she knows where it came from. The radio station became one of her haunts after the Dome came down, and she can't count the number of times she commandeered the airwaves to give the town the little information they had about what was going on. It was also no surprise when she learned from Barbie later on that it burned down, and she has no doubt about who torched it. The destruction of a free press is the first step to reigning fascism and Big Jim had the town in his pocket.

She just hadn't expected it to be here. Julia spends a long time wandering around outside, hesitant to go in and experience those similar emotions all over again. Every time she grabs the railing to take the first step up the stairs, she falters. It's felt like so long since she left Chester's Mill and everything it was behind her. She's not sure she wants to risk going back, even for a moment.

A. The Amagi Inn
[It's kind of nice to be back here, even if it is Spookville outside. Souji wanders for a little while, just liking the feeling of being somewhere familiar. It helps with the retinue of ghosts that are following him. He'd be okay with one or two of them, but having all four, especially the one with the candy hearts, just makes him want to stay away from everyone else. No one needs to be subjected to this shit.

He eventually comes upon the hot spring, takes his shoes off, rolls up his pants, and sits on the edge with his feet in the water.]

No one to throw things this time...

B. School University

[He feels so called out right now. He's been told he's from a JRPG and he can imagine it was the sort with this kind of text menu to choose from. Right now, he's stymied by a menu keeping him out of a closet.]

Pet the cat... Deny the cat pets...

[He glances around for a cat. He has no idea how this stupid place knows about the cats, but...]

...It's doing this on purpose.

[He selects "Deny the cat pets" and it finally lets him into the closet.]

C. Sparkly Horse Library

[Later in the event, he spends quite a while here, pulling book after book off the shelves to look through them. It doesn't take him long to realize they're all about things related to ponies, but that doesn't stop him. It's something to do to distract him from that paranoid feeling that something is following him. Something other than the ghosts, anyway.]

D. Wildcard

[Souji will definitely also visit Rokkenjima, Craigh Na Dun, and Mable Land. Find him anywhere, though! If you want to set up something specific, PM me or hit me up on Discord.]

1. School University

[Awwww dip. Dip dang darn. Okay. So this place definitely has ghosts and it definitely has the school from Romance Acedemy 7. So it's probably just a ghost-haunted version of the school, right? It's not also Giffany-haunted? Right?

Soos sighs, kicking at a (rather enormous) pile of cherry blossom petals at the very edge of the school's boundaries. He doesn't have much choice, does he? If Giffany is here, that's his fault, and he's gotta deal with her so she doesn't hurt anybody. Even if he'd rather avoid it forever, like he used to when it came to girls in general. That was a nice time.

But nope, that time's over, and he's stronger now. He's gotta just take that first step and--

•Charge the school like a vinking
•Catch a sakura blossom from the air and then pose until a girl sees you
•Kiss her, you fool!

Soos read the options allowed, puzzling over their meaning for a moment.]

...Oh, viking. Right.

[Well, that one fits better than the other two do, at least? Soos picks it and...yeah, nothing actually seems to happen. Pretty similar to the game, actually. Giffany was the only thing that had drawings, really. Anything else was left up to his imagination. Maybe he'll be able to imagine Giffany away?

Soos presses forward, sighing as he encounters menu after menu roughly every 10 feet. This might take a while.]

2. Clementine's House

[So far, this is probably the place that looks the least hauntable, which Soos is glad for. Like, he's up for ghost hunting, don't get him wrong. But sometimes you just want to sleep without spooks, is all.

Still, he's wary of Wonderland's tricks. Giffany didn't show up, but that doesn't mean this place won't have something worse than ghosts you can't talk to. Soos stands on the edge of the property and cups his hands around his mouth to shout.]

UH, HEY! ANYBODY IN THERE? If you're a ghost you legally have to tell me...

[He's pretty sure that's true, anyway.]

3. Vault 111 (Late Event)

[This is the worst place to get lost in. All the hallways look the same! And there's so many skeletons. Which he'd normally roll with, like, everybody's got one after all, but-- but there's something in here with him. He's really really sure about that, and maybe it's just one of those dead giant cockroaches but what if it's not.

This place is too close. Too small. He can't find his way back out. He can't get out.

Soos starts to run, the halls growing longer but more narrow, more dark, more dank. If he just makes left turns, maybe, or maybe he just has to keep moving so it doesn't get him, whatever it is, he can't let it--

Soos slips or trips or something and flies forward, landing on his face in a heap, the wind knocked out of him in a whoosh of air. He can't move, can't breathe, and it's coming, one way or another it is coming.

Is that a dog barking?]

4. Wildcard!

[Once he's confirmed he doesn't have to worry about Giffany trying to kill people with rock and roll robots, Soos spends the event exploring quite a bit. There's way too many places from people's memories, and that seems important for Solving All The Mysteries, so he's gathering what he can. Aaaand getting lost, sometimes. Find him actively investigating early in the event, or panicking at getting lost in someone else's memories later on.]

Trost:

When he saw the giant walls looming in the distance, Jean didn’t give a second look back to the Mansion. He didn’t even check to see if it was fake, like others before him might have. He knew where he needed to go. This was some kind of event, and if it was working off of his memories, there was a very real chance that Wonderland residents could be in danger.

First, he did a full perimeter check, and used his gear judiciously, using up as little gas as he could while also going as fast as he could manage. He was relieved to find that there weren’t any Titans in the area, and that both the gates were operational. So, if Titans were to show up, they could be corralled and trapped in the city itself, reducing possible casualties.

Once he was satisfied with his survey, Jean entered the city proper.

It was more than just a little strange. It wasn’t only that Jean had been in Wonderland so long that he’d lost a little bit of his memory of this place— Even back in his world, he hadn’t been to his hometown in years. Once Shiganshina was taken, that became the new Military’s HQ. He’d lost any reason to go back to Trost, even to visit his mother. He didn’t have the time.

It was just like it had been when he was a child, practically unchanged, right down to the people inhabiting the streets. They were ghostly apparitions that wouldn’t interact with him, but they walked and talked and went about their day as any city-dweller inside the Walls would. Soon, he found himself wandering among them, guided by his natural impulses.

Hours must have passed. It felt like he had walked through every street and alleyway before he grappled his way up to the top of the tallest building in the city: The Military barracks and supply warehouse. People moved around below him like ants.

Nothing felt like home anymore. That was the fate of those who had given their hearts up for humanity. He’d never be able to live like this again.

[Feel free to meet Jean anywhere in Trost, or to encounter Titans depending on your dreamstate. He will be there to rescue anyone who needs it.]

Prime Kindergarten:

Jean was originally drawn towards the Kindergarten because the deep canyon was a natural phenomenon that he’d never experienced before. The steep cliffs gave him plenty of space to grapple and use his 3DMG, so even when things got a little… creepy, he didn’t feel terribly threatened.

The huge people-shaped holes garnered most of his attention. He used his gear to get close up and examine them. Some of them were the size of smaller class Pure Titans. It was incredibly strange, along with the big obelisks scattered around. He didn’t know what their purpose was, but by the neglected look of them, they must have served their purpose long ago.

He spent a couple of hours here looking in and at the bigger holes. Was it possible to make living things out of the rock of the earth? There were old tales and myths that suggested that it had happened in the ancient past. Maybe it was the work of the Devil of all Earth.

Jean didn’t linger. Once he had satisfied his curiosity, and felt he had seen all there was to see, he moved on.

Flooded City:

The huge lake (or perhaps a sea, Jean was still fuzzy on the distinction between the two) was another point of interest that he stopped at to do a little exploring.

Well. From the surface, at least.

Like pretty much everyone in that grew up in the Walls, he was a terrible swimmer, and had no interest in diving down. He’d die, and he knew it. Instead, he walked along the shores of the lake, peering down into the crystal-clear waters and the city that slept below.

The architecture was like nothing he’d seen before. The buildings were sleek and slim, and shone with glinting sunlight. There were fish everywhere, but little plant growth, just the occasional dotting here and there where stubborn weeds had broken through the solid material the streets were made of.

He would have been more interested if there seemed to be any sign of people currently living here, but the city was deserted. He wondered if the buildings were constructed first, and then were flooded after a matter of time, or if they were constructed underwater by some kind of creature that could that without needing any air.

He spent a couple of hours watching the fish, then decided to continue mapping out the Dream Side.

Amagi Inn:

Out of all the singular buildings that had suddenly popped up in the Dream Side, this one caught his attention the in the most gripping way, mostly because he’d never seen architecture like it before. It was all made of glossy wood. The doors were made of paper. There was a faint smell of varnish in the air. The hallways within all had an identical, harmonious feeling to them.

It had to be some kind of inn, since there were so many rooms within were obvious accommodations. It was silent, but he didn’t feel off put by the isolation here. The talismans around the ceiling meant nothing to him, for all he knew they were just decoration, so he didn’t really care.

A vague scent of sulfur eventually guided him to the natural hot-springs inside the inn (thankfully, the male baths) and he got to have a whole new, unusually pleasant experience. Jean was shocked to see such a huge bath so hot it was steaming… How in the world did it stay so warm? Geothermal energy had never been harnessed in the Walls, because they weren’t anywhere near any active volcanic sites. As far as he could tell, it was magic.

He took off his boots to wade in up to his knees, and it felt great. Was it okay to get naked here? He was pretty sure he was alone… After only a minute’s deliberation, he shed himself of the rest of his clothes and dove right in.

Just getting his feet warm was pleasant enough, but his whole body? It was a whole new luxury he’d never experienced before. Bathwater was never this hot in his world, and he didn’t take baths at the Mansion either; just quick showers. This would be so good after a day of working with the 3DMG.

Feel free to find him almost asleep in the springs during an overlong soak.

The Unknown:

Of course, after a few days in the Dream Side, Jean found himself in the absolute worst place to be losing his mind.

It was cold. A kind of cold he had never felt before. It came from the inside-out. It made it hard for him to lift his feet. He felt like he was being sucked into the earth itself. His other senses were becoming less and less reliable as time passed. The human mind wasn’t meant to wander like this for so long. It becoming very difficult to separate dream from reality.

The trees around him creaked and groaned with the wind, a sound like the moaning of dying men. Jean kept seeing things creeping up in his peripheral vision. The light of a lantern. Ghostly silhouettes that he could swear he recognized as those he once knew, but died long ago. He made eye contact with one for only a second, and was chilled anew by the sight of their abnormal, bright, candy-colored eyes.

His hands and feet were growing numb, despite his warm clothes. The leaf-litter on the ground looked strangely…Comforting…

The roots of a great tree spread out in a welcoming embrace. Jean sat down inside of it. He just wanted to sleep. Sleep within sleep. Where would he go then? He didn’t know. It felt like icy arms were holding him tight from behind. Maybe he could see them again. Really see them.

Delicate roots caressed his cheek as he closed his eyes.

(a. holiday star lighthouse)

[ Suddenly finding yourself in a different place isn't too strange compared to the usual in Wonderland, so Ange - especially with how nonchalant she is about most things - is able to pretty much keep her cool when she suddenly finds herself in front of a lighthouse. Sure, it's weird, but it's weird on a level that's just normal for this place.

She doesn't even seem too bothered entering the building and looking around the throne room. After a few moments of staring at the throne and seeming to ponder something, she even just moves to try and climb up and sit on there. There's something vaguely amused about her as she sits there, like some sort of mild childish glee inspired by how oddly happy this place feels.

It's quickly replaced by a hint of embarrasment though if she spots anyone else walking in. ]

Uh.. Hi. [ Totally not just having pretended to be a queen here for a moment or two, nope siree, Ange would never do something that uncool! ]

(b. the unknown)

[ The forest is a whole different place. It still doesn't seem to faze Ange much, despite how oddly spooky the location is - especially with those faces on the trees. One may find her standing in front of one of those trees, looking up at it. ]

This feels like it's some sort of fairytale. [ Ange doesn't even seem to notice if anyone is watching her, she's just talking to herself.. ] Am I supposed to be Gretel here or something?

(c. flooded city)

[ As the event progresses, Ange does find herself feeling a bit more of that paranoia. It's probably the reason why, upon suddenly finding herself in this underwater city place, it doesn't occur to her right away that you might be able to just walk around here and breathe with Wonderland's weird rules about everything.

Which means that for a few moments she looks really panicked by Ange standards as she tries to hold onto the last breath she took before finding herself there. Her face grows more and more red until she can't help but open her mouth to try and take a breath--

.. Only to find she can just breathe underwater here. Great. Lovely.

Her face is still red, but now more out of embarrasment as she drags a hand down her face. ]

This is ridiculous.

[ Please tell her no one saw that. ]

(d. rokkenjima)

[ By the end of the event the feeling that someone or something is coming for her has fully kicked in. Which means Ange is definitely staying in the place that feels most familiar to her here - the mansion on Rokkenjima. Sure, it's pretty spooky by nature, but it's a familiar kind of spooky, so she'll take it.

The downside of the familiarity though is that anyone and anything that doesn't belong there sure stands out. If she happens to spot anyone from the corner of her eye, she'll quickly turn towards them. ]

~ before ~
[Freya is not in the mood to play Wonderland's games today.

She's not in the mood to stumble into other people's memories or traumas, she's not in the mood to explore or figure things out. Freya just wants to have a party. Her house is here, her house is conjuring people and wants to throw a party, so she's going to go with it.

Freya is dancing on tables. Freya is drinking. A lot. Freya is flirting with fake people, and occasionally spotting Wonderland residents and pulling them in to dance with her. She intends to just dance this event, whatever it is, away and you all are welcome to join her.]

~ after ~
[Parties can't last forever, however. As the week comes to a close, so comes the crash. The high of the celebration fades to the feelings of pain and abandonment. She's never been blind to the bloodshed that happened within these walls - how could she? She lived through parts of it - but she had hoped that she could pocket that denial for a little while longer.

So when the party ends, and the nightmare of isolation and abandonment begins, and Freya matches the setting. Her make up is smudged and running, and she's dropped onto one of the worn edges of the central fountain, letting the weight of all of it hit her. She misses her sister. She misses Elijah. She knows that eventually she's going to return home and find out the permanent fate of her brother and she's not ready for it.

She's not ready for any of it. She's not ready for her family to become scattered all over again.

Eventually she'll try to drag herself to her feet, stumbling towards the gates because this is not the party she signed up for, but she glances back one last time over her shoulder, and sighs.]

A. School University
[Somehow or another Lapis's explorations have brought her to the school roof, and the view out that chain-link fence must really be something! Other than that, she's found a bench that was waiting equipped with a bentou and a sealed letter. Pretty Hairstylist didn't prepare Lapis for these particular tropes. She's holding the envelope, musing on whether she's curious enough to open it... and also looking thoroughly bemused by the menu options she's been presented with.]

Okay, I'm pretty sure "hdeart" isn't a word.

B. Amagi Inn, Towards the End
[Lapis is strong-willed, but that fear, the feeling of being hunted, catches up with everyone. She can be kinda paranoid and jumpy to begin with, and she takes threats seriously, especially with Wonderland acting up again. On the last days of the event, when things really get bad, she holes up at the Amagi Inn. It may be creepy, but so is everywhere else; this one is at least habitable and not immediately dangerous, and of course it has a good supply of water for self-defense. So, more specifically, she's camping the hot spring.

When things are this ominous, it's a little hard not to be a jumpscare when you creak the sliding door open. Lapis is altogether too ready to react. Depending on your approach and your luck, you might just get a startled "Who's there?"... or you might step through to find yourself sternly menaced by a giant water hand... or it might go ahead and pin you in place. Nothing worse than that, though. We're all civilized beings here.]

C. And Let's Not Forget This Jerk (Clementine's House) (and it's the Mirror so replies from [personal profile] sslillappy)
[The Mirror, of course, is also around. M'Lapis is feeling fairly unimpressed about being dragged into Wonderland's malfunctioning a-freaking-GAIN, but she tries to make the best of things. And it's taken her a while to understand the nature of this world -- she doesn't sleep much -- but when she comes to understand that she can change it, that definitely has potential. So she sets about experimenting, and she's not half bad at it.

She also has absolutely no respect for anyone's angst. At this moment, M'Lapis has gathered a stash of candy from Clementine's bloodstained kitchen and is sitting on the coffee table, engaged in a fierce staring contest with the answering machine as she wills it to play something more enjoyable. So far she has only succeeded in underlying the apocalyptic log with inappropriately soothing music. It's a start!]

Wildcards
[Like so many people, Lapis can also be found in most places that merely don't have elaborate prompts; I'll cite the library, Rokkenjima, and of course the Kindergarten, but whatever's good, honestly there are so many delightful possibilities. If you happen to want the Mirror, she's even more all over the place. In fact, you should definitely run into M'Lapis in the dating sim too. Why didn't I write THAT prompt?]

[After her concerning conversation with the White Queen, she knows she needs to talk to someone first. It's not that she just wants to make sure all the information gets where it needs to go, but more she needs to determine what information is getting where it needs to go.

She thinks of Steve because Fury trusts Steve, from what she can tell. He seems to have worked with him more than she did, and Fury, even when she knew him, was all about compartmentalizing information. Carol is not. If she talks to Steve, maybe he'll know what's best, one way or another.

Most importantly, she trusts Steve. If she's going to share everything with someone, it's going to be him.

She makes her way through, starting to poke through the rooms, before eventually deciding to call out:]

A. CASINO

[Honestly? Getting dropped in a casino isn't the worst thing that's happened to Stan. It's pretty quiet when he gets there, except for the noise of the machines. It doesn't take Stan long to figure out some of the games and build himself some cash (because obviously he's supposed to make money, right? Why else would Wonderland dump him here?)

But, something about all this feels off to him. He's pretty sure he's not asleep, but the whole place feels the way dreams feel and he's pretty good at manipulating those. So why not use that ability for the most noble cause of all - cheating at a capsule vending machine.

The first time, he uses it normally and gets a pack of candy cigarettes. Not bad, but he can do better. So the second time he sets his hand against the side of the machine as it spits out his prize, trying to will it to change it into something good. Something useful. Stan gets two prizes this way - an aluminum water bottle and a (space??) cosmic blanket. However, after the second time he cheats, it sounds off and starts blaring some horrible video before shooting one last prize at him - a photo frame of Dipper with the face crossed out in red.

Stan, like an sensible person, yelps and drops the frame, shattering the glass.
]

Alright, alright! I'm goin', just shut up with that racket alright?!

[And with that, Stan takes off running out of the casino with his remaining prizes.]

B. DEAD END FLATS

Welp. Didn't miss this place.

[To be fair, he didn't even remember it when he first strolled into this area. His memory isn't what it used to be, and this stretch of his past is sort of a blur, since there wasn't a lot of photographic evidence of it - and for good reason.

Still, it must be buried in his head somewhere if it's being dragged out now, and he knows it's a decent place to make a base camp - or at the very least, it's better than that damn casino.

So he sets up shop there. He picks his old room, and focuses hard when he opens the door, changing the room inside to look less like his old place and more like his room back in the mansion. It doesn't completely work, and if he looks hard enough he can see places where the old room is visible underneath - questionable stains, that carpet that just won't rip off the floor. It also only holds if he's concentrating hard on it.
]

...Eh. Guess that's gonna be good enough.

[He scrawls a symbol on the door from muscle memory - the fish symbol from his old fez inside what looks like a square with the top line missing. Beats him what it means, but it's probably important.]

C. WILDCARD

[Once Stan figures out more about what's going on...well, honestly he stays in Dead End Flats for a couple more days, figuring it'll be easier for others to come find him than the other way around. Eventually though, the event starts to get to him too. It drags up old paranoid feelings that had been entirely forgotten. Something's coming after him, and if something's after him it's probably after the kids too, and maybe even Soos. He doesn't know how much of it's true, but he thinks about that creepy picture and decides he doesn't want to risk it. Not when he can mess around with dreamscapes and actually help them.

So he packs a bag, crosses out the symbol on his door, and (perhaps stupidly) leaves relative safety to go find his family. He can be found just about anywhere on his travels - maybe he'll even help you, if you're desperate enough to take help from him.
]

D. THE HANGED MAN (ghost!)

[Elsewhere, there's a vengeful, restless spirit in a seedy bar. It's gravitated there not to drink or commiserate, but because there are glasses for it to throw at anyone who comes near it.

The ghost is clearly Stan, but he has a gruesome hole blasted through his middle. A horrible way to go, really. This ghost in particular seems to be harder on those it recognizes, as though it's not sure who they really are.

Anyone looking to approach him should really watch their head, and their feet. There's shattered glass everywhere.

A. THE FLOODED CITY

[Wirt panics when he wakes up underwater. Oh no, oh no he's drowning again. This is it; he's dying for good this time--!

Except, he doesn't. After a moment or so, he realizes that he's not only not drowning, but that he can breathe the water for some reason. He's not really swimming (and honestly, it proves to be more difficult that it's worth) but he's able to walk around as though on land. It's enough for Wirt to mistakenly believe this is actually a dream, and so he spends a considerable amount of time just wandering the area, figuring that he'll just wake up eventually or something.

But then, a considerable amount of time passes. He hasn't grown tired, but...shouldn't he have woken up by now? And he does feel awake... Maybe that isn't what's going on after all.

So Wirt eventually leaves the flooded city - however, a ghostly version of himself, clad in his old cape and hat, remains behind. A version of himself who did drown, many events ago.
]

B. WYBS 89.3

[It isn't long before he finds an abandoned radio station on his travels. He should probably try and actually find some other people, wherever they might be, so...maybe someone will let him broadcast a signal from there? It's as good a plan as anything else he can think of.

However, when he gets inside it becomes apparent that he's not going to actually be able to do this. It was a good thought, but he doesn't know anything about radio equipment. While he's alone he tries a couple of buttons--
]

U-Um. Hello? I-Is anyone out there? Louis? Mabel? ...Dipper?

[--but it's not working. He didn't really know how to do it in the first place though, so he probably should have expected that. Ultimately, what makes him leave the radio station is the hoard of butterflies that flew at him when he opened a closet door. He swats them away as he runs for the door, but a couple of them still manage to bite him before he gets far enough away.]

C. THE UNKNOWN

[Wirt sees the forest clear as day ahead of him, and he scoffs.]

Pfft. Like I'm falling for that. I'll just wind up walking around in circles and getting super lost again. This stupid place probably wants me to become an Edelwood tree. No way. Nope. No way, José.

[So he turns around and leaves, and tries to go a different direction...only to wind up back at the Unknown a few hours later.]

What?! But...I went the other way...right?

[He frowns and leaves again, frustrated by his sense of direction, but the more he thinks about it the less he pays attention where he's going, and sure enough he stops with horror and realizes he is in fact, in the middle of the forest.]

Oh no. Oh no, oh no, what did I do?

[Unfortunately, the more he panics about it, the more turned around he gets. He spends days there, as the world around him keeps switching direction.]

D. SPOOKY MURDER BRIDGE (ghost!)

[There's one more member of the undead lurking near this bridge. He never quite made it to being a zombie, but this ghost of Wirt has a blunt wound to the head to prove that much.

He lurks around, waiting for faces he recognizes. However, when he spots them, he vanishes into thin air.

The Hanged Man »

[There's only one place that Hawke feels truly at home. And, naturally, it's a filthy, disgusting tavern that no health inspector would go within 500 feet of, let alone give a passing grade.

When he wakes, for the briefest moment he thinks he's home again but the atmosphere isn't right. The Hanged Man was always... something, but this is different and the realisation sets in and he sinks onto one of the nearby benches and rests his head in his hands. He knows it's part of Wonderland's nonsense, part of whatever's going on this time but he doesn't care. He hasn't been home in so long.

The one advantage he has is that a lifetime of dreaming in the Fade lets him have some modicum of control over this, so the tavern is packed with spectral patrons and the atmosphere is lively, if... with a certain layer of filth on everything because it's not clean, at all.

So for almost the entire event, he can found in The Hanged Man, though he's pointedly not touching any of the alcohol. If he can't be found in the main room, he's in one of the back rooms that looks a little more lived in than the others, talking to someone that isn't there.]
